Maybe because it was such a small film, but seriously Kristen did such a spectacular job. not only should she be nominated, but WIN. This role in Cake Eater is a WIN for Kristen. ReplyDeletei'm with you a hundred and one percent! it's amazing how hard kristen stewart nailed that role down. i'm a nurse and i, sometimes, get patients who have the same disability and it's just heartbreaking to see them struggle so much to be treated or be seen by everyone as equals, and live their lives constantly trying to fit in in a society where judgments and discrimination are rather rampant. kristen was able to bring out the nuances of a person with the debilitating disease, and show the viewers a part of what they go through in life. it's as if she got it all down to a science! considering her age when she did the film, it's impressive how she was able to give the role justice and more.

She is a serious actor with substance and she brings great sensitivity and real talent to the film business today, which is rare and unique considering most actors crave only media attention. Yes, please do it. Kris is an amazing actress. Her passion and drive is very apparent in the work that she does; she puts her heart and soul into her roles and many people just don't appreciate that, which is unfortunate. Stewart is wonderful and I hope that she will get nominated and win the award(s).

well i would have to say that it was truly amazing, and phenomonally done. Not a lot of people could pull Georgia off, and she did more then that. She brought Georgia to life, and portrayed her illness as if she had it herself.

I definitely think The Cake Eaters was her best performance. I swear if I had not seen her is other films before, I would have seriously thought she had the diease. ReplyDeleteWithout a doubt, Kristen Stewart gave an Oscar worthy performance in CakeEaters. Melissa Leo (actress) thought Kristen actually had the disease. Kristen's performance was honest, portraying the effects of the disease on her character, but not sappy... Kristen showed the fierce realism of her character's understanding of the illness vs. her determination to not appear "needy" or incapable of handling high school and teenage activities, including dating and sex.

I must admit I am pretty impressed by Kristen Stewart's performance in the 'Cake Eaters'. I noticed her for the first time in 2002 in 'Panic Room', seeing the potential as she starred next to Jodie Foster without falter. Also I loved her performance in 'Adventureland'. That's what made me look back into her filmography (and not "Twilight"- and that's how I discovered the "Cake Eaters". I think Masterson did a great job with this film which is also, notably, her first. The simplicity and the humanity that's the core of this film make it an amazing story to watch. Good Luck to Kristen and I do hope your initiative has the appropriate response. I am sure that Kristen deserves the accolades.

Kristen performance was outstanding in this role! She deserves recognition for this role. I was so amazed by her portrayal, she was totally believable as a girl with this debilitating disease. Yes, she deserves an oscar nomination.

ReplyDeleteThe Oscars are awards for **acting** - which means an actor needs to take on characteristics, mannerisms, a personality that is not their known. Kristen did it beautifully in this movie.
I think Mary Stuart Masterson said it best -- that when she took TCE to film festivals before Kristen became a household name, she had men and women who had ataxia approach her and say, "Where did you find an actress who had ataxia?" Her performance was unbelievable, and I think it's about time the world recognizes what a true talent she is.
Her role as Georgia in this film was one of the most poignant performances I've ever seen, ESPECIALLY from such a young actress! She absolutely deserves recognition for her work in The Cake Eaters. I feel that too many people are only aware of her work in the Twilight franchise, so they don't take her seriously as an actress or even attempt to watch her other films. An Oscar nod would be excellent, and well-deserved.

Earlier in this year I had a college project - I just had to pick any genetic disease I'd want and explain that to the class - and after watching Kristen Stewart as Georgia, I researched everything I could about Friederich's Ataxia, I even showed a couple of scenes from The Cake Eaters. My teachers gave me an A (and they actually thought Kristen had the disease).

ReplyDeleteWhen I came out of the theatre from where I first saw "THE CAKE EATERS", I came out feeling so unbelieveably moved by Kristen's performance. As I recall there were moments where I forgot that I was watching a movie and that Kristen was "acting" because her performance was unbelievably realistic and moving!!!! I really hope she gets an OSCAR nomination for her portrayal of Gerogia...I hope this film gets its deserved attention.

1. feature length (defined as over 40 minutes),

During the movie, I forgot that she was only acting because she her performance was really realistic.
Kristen really deserves an oscar for all of her works, for all of her talent and, very important, because she is an inspiration for any teenager.

In response to the Academy qualifications comment: The Cake Eaters was theatrically released in several cities including Los Angeles and New York, commercially,in March 2009.

ReplyDeleteWhat makes the movie ineligible for Academy Award nominations is that it was first premiered in '07 at Tribeca and taken around to several other film fests throughout '07 and '08. A better campaign would be for Little Ashes.

ReplyDeleteThe academy should recognize indie movies and its actors/directors in a better way. The mind should overpower the matter. That's the reason why Sundance surprise their public every year. The next generation of actors/actresses are the best I've ever seen and one of their big names is Kristen Stewart.

I've never seen such a good performance of a sick person in my whole life. Kristen showed the emotions of the character perfect and I felt like it was real.

Let me begin by saying that I am a very big KS fan. And NOT juist from Twilight as I suspect alot of her recent fans became fans after that movie. No, I have been a fan from day one when she was in Panic Room and every single cheesy film since ("Catch That Kid" anyone? lol). With that being said, I think her performance was amazing, but I do not think it was enough for an Oscar win yet alone a nomination. Don;t get me wrong, she did great but the role was very understated and did not allow her much range. Sure she played a "different" character with physical struggles but beyond getting the mannerisms down and altering her voice a bit, the role was not that demanding. I love her, and this film will be a testament of why she is a great acttress, but in my opinion, not enough for the Academy to think so. Sorry.
